At SEO Link Firm, we always stay updated on search engine changes to ensure our clients get the best possible results. Today, we’re sharing an important update from Google regarding how URLs appear in mobile search results.
Courtesy of Google Search Central, this update simplifies the way mobile searchers see URLs, making the experience cleaner and more user-friendly. Previously, Google displayed breadcrumbs as part of the “site hierarchy” feature, but they often got cut off on smaller screens. To enhance clarity, Google has now removed breadcrumbs from mobile search results in all languages and regions where Google Search is available. However, breadcrumbs will continue to appear on desktop search results.
How URLs Will Now Appear
- On Desktop:
The visible URL will still show two parts—the domain and the breadcrumb.
- On Mobile:
The visible URL will be simplified to show only the domain.
Google reassures webmasters that breadcrumb markup is still supported for desktop search results and can continue to be implemented and tested using the Rich Results Test. The Breadcrumb Rich Result Report in Search Console will also remain available.
This update aims to enhance user experience by making search results more readable on mobile devices.
